Overhauled a lot of the game


Made some major changes to the game. Lots more planned for the future but wanted to push these updates out to get some feedback before doubling down.

Combat & Movement

  • Changed aiming and shooting from automatic to aiming with cursor and shooting with left click
    • Makes the combat more interesting, challenging, and in the control of the player
  • Added new dashing mechanic with meter below the player's health to allow dashing with space or right click
    • Allows more advanced movement to handle new limited arena space
  • Changed arena from unlimited space to a tight area with trees with maneuver around
    • Makes combat more challenging and dynamic when you can't just infinitely kite sideways
  • Removed range limit
    • Having limited range with manual firing seemed frustrating with an already more challenging combat method
  • Removed duration limit from waves requiring player to kill all enemies to proceed

UI

  • Added new bar across the top to show how many enemies are left in the current round
  • Move score and current wave labels to the center above the wave progress bar
  • Added tooltips to the shop explaining what each upgrade does
  • Other small tweaks

Visual

  • Changed player's character to a new robot themed character
  • Changed the arena from a blank white screen to a forest themed limit size map
    • Needs some work, definitely not final state


I'm sure I missed a bunch of things, maybe even an important one or two. Let me know what you think of the changes so I know what direction to take this next! Some likely planned next steps:

  • Improve enemy combat abilities
  • Add new upgrades like bouncing bullets
  • Add new bosses and other minor enemies
  • Tweak controls
  • Add LOTS of polish
